Is strong attraction for another due to past life?

MANILA, Philippines—“Is it really true that there is a reason why we meet people?” asks reader Angelina.
“Just late last year, I met Rafael (not his real name). He is my officemate. We enjoy each other’s company and feel this special connection. At the same time, we also find ourselves attracted to each other.
“I have purchased your book ‘Soulmates, Karma and Reincarnation,’ and I can say that the book was quite helpful. Now I realize more that Rafael could indeed possibly be my soulmate.
“All the factors that you mentioned are present. We are both so at ease with each other, even if we have known each other (in this lifetime at least) for less than a year.
“The problem is, we are both married. I have been married for 10 years and have three kids. My husband is the extremely jealous type. He found out about this friendship I have with Rafael, and now wants me to give him up.
“I love my husband dearly. But it is also hard for me to give up Rafael. Now I want to know who he was in my past life. Why does this connection between me and him exist? I hope you can help me.” —Angelina
Your case is not an isolated one. There are several married women I know who are in the same situation you find yourself in. However, your case is complicated by the fact that your husband knows your special friendship with another man whom you call Rafael.
You are asking me what you should do. Before I answer this, let me give you some food for thought that may help you to make up your own mind on what to do. Since you have already read my book “Soulmates, Karma & Reincarnation,” you are already familiar with the basic concepts and principles on why such relationships happen.
Let me summarize these:
1. Nothing happens by chance. This is what the law of causality says.
According to Edgar Cayce, “We seldom meet a person by accident, for the soul never forgets.”
I am sure you had met Rafael before in a previous lifetime, maybe as lovers, maybe as husband and wife. This explains the very strong attraction you have for each other.
2. The fact that you met again in this lifetime still carrying such a strong connection with each other means there is still some karma that’s left for you to work out with each other in this lifetime. But you are free to work this out now or leave it for some future lifetime.
3. The heart has reasons that reason does not understand. There is no point in trying to understand or rationalize your feelings. This attraction is brought about by your soul memory of a past life lived together.
4. When you love somebody, let him go; if he comes back, he is yours, if he does not, he never was.
I would have advised you to let him go and wait, but since you chose to still continue to see Rafael and to lie to your husband, you have to be prepared for that day when your relationship is discovered. When that time comes you will be forced to make a decision.
5. Let me give you the same piece of advice that Polonius gave to his son Laertes in Shakespeare’s immortal drama, “Hamlet”:
“Above all, to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.”
And as the great Lebanese mystic poet, Kahlil Gibran, said, “Love will crucify you as much as it crowns you.”
