MANILA, Philippines—The popular Paseo Uno of the elegant Mandarin Oriental Manila buzzed with excitement when the indefatigable philanthropist Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas celebrated another beautiful year with her Wednesday business lunch bunch, dahlings.

She looked fantastic and stylish in her kaftan top. Baby thanked her invitees while holding a bunch of flowers presented to her. Paseo Uno’s tables were all decked with red roses, the celebrator’s favorite flower, dahlings.

As expected in any gathering of Baby, her well-wishers were a mix of diplomatic, business, political and media people. Present were Italian Ambassador Rubens Fedele; Saudi Arabian Ambassador Mohd. Ameen Wali; Justice Manuel Lazaro; former Secretary Avelino Cruz; former Press Secretary and now PR top honcho Mike Toledo; young representatives of Congress Boying Remulla, Rex Gatchalian and Carissa Coscolluela with her daughter, Rachel Arenas, most likely talking about politics.

Her Wednesday Group gang and close pals like Mila Alora and Luz Benigno, Marilen and Tony Guisande and daughter-in-law Maryrose were here, there and everywhere inside the resto, endlessly entertaining the invitees, palanggas.

Before you could say “goodbye,” Baby and her hardworking daughter Rachel zoomed off to Pangasinan for a bigger birthday bash with the constituents of the third district.

One thing is sure, our Queen for a Day is surely blessed for she shares her blessings with others.

Cheers, palanggas!

Chic way to rest

When style is the topic of conversation, dahlings, fashion trends and beauty tips are usually up front. But what one often forgets is that nothing beats a good shuteye.

A chic way to rest is by using the renowned Hunter Douglas, the world leader in window coverings and architectural products, together with partners Bed Talk and K. Benitez Design Concepts, which recently unveiled the “Home Mavericks Showroom.” An awesome lifestyle hub along Edsa that features the Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Gallery, it offers window treatments for sprucing up bedroom havens.

Special guests were Sen. Miguel Zubiri and wife Audrey Tan.

“Being a public figure, I often unwind whenever I find time to do so. And looking around, we agree that we can definitely enjoy an improved quality of rest,” said Zubiri.

Tall, dashing Jim Tan, Hunter Douglas regional head for Asia, jetted in directly from Malaysia, and Gigi Anne Lapira, Hunter Douglas Philippines’ brilliant president, no less.

“Through Hunter Douglas window fashions, the bedroom can become a cozy and chic sanctuary for modern-day living,” said Lapira, palanggas.

Once inside, cool saxophone player Vince Lahora created a blues-y mood while interior designers, architects and home owners breezed around the ultra-sleek showroom displays.

“Hunter Douglas window fashions amplify the bedroom experience by giving total privacy, protection from the sun and a perfect rest,” said Brad Geiser, hotshot of GeiserMaclang Marketing Communications, Inc.

Need moi say more? Yeah! Check it out palanggas. Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Gallery is at Home Mavericks Showroom, Ferigate Bldg., Guadalupe, Makati. Call 8972239 or e-mail inquiry@mybedtalk.com.

Met exhibit

Moi was extremely glad that I went to this fantastic must-see, rare exhibit of two awesome art icons: world-class Filipiniana designer Patis Tesoro and acclaimed artist Romulo Galicano.

Simply called “Postura,” dahlings, the exhibit is ongoing at the Tall Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

The exhibit features some 62 portraits and paintings of Galicano and an awesome 28 Filipiniana dresses and 19 Ninay dolls tableaux of Patis T., no less. Check it out fast, palanggas.

Aprčs the usual sips of cocktails and wine, the grand highlight was the launching of an original Galicano oil on canvass “Sa Libis ng Bario,” which was won by lucky Edwin and Irene Luy, while palangga Ilonggo lawyer Joe Mari Treńas went home with the Tesoro Ninay doll which was raffled off later in the evening.

The glittering invitees included internationally artist Juvenal Sanso; Greenfields Development Corp. president Jeffrey Campos; Evelyn Forbes and Dr. Margarita Holmes; Bert and Noni Basilio; Regine and Gina Espinosa of Iloilo City; and Omeng Esguerra, dahlings.

Naturellement, we must congratulate the creative team behind the “Postura” catalogue and the others who made this project a smashing success, dahlings.
