Beer in your hair, believe it or not

MANILA, Philippines—Our mothers or grandmothers may remember a time when women used beer as a setting lotion or to give extra body and shine to hair. Borrowing form this old practice, a team of hair, herbal and naturopathic experts has developed through a micro-brewing process Hi-shine, under Natural Source, an Australian brand.
The main ingredients are hops, barley, yeast and purified spring water, combined with wheat bran, henna and honey, resulting in a formula that works within the hair follicle, helping hair restore itself while keeping it clean.
My favorite is the extra body shampoo and conditioner (P795), which makes my hair shiny but adds sexy volume for that “Baywatch” hair bounce. It is very concentrated so a little amount goes a long way.
Other favorite is Volumiser Mist (P595 and P795), which when applied to damp freshly washed hair, plumps up the hair shaft while adding to the shine factor without making hair greasy or stiff.
Natural has outlets in Bonifacio High Street and Glorietta 4.
If there is something we should not mind paying extra for, it is great foundation that makes skin look like a baby’s. Among those recently sent to me, there are two brands of powder foundation that stand out.
I prefer powder because it is the most portable and the quickest to apply; it does not risk spilling. Both look sheer, feel weightless, give medium coverage, camouflage large pores and control oil while faking perfect bare skin.
Shiseido the Makeup Powdery Foundation SPF 15 (P1,650) does not have that cakey finish so it is suitable even for dry skin. It now has the lightest yellow shade O00, or Ochre 00, which is a perfect match for those who wear MACs C2 or NC15 to 20.
Guerlain Parure Pearly White with Pearl Lily Complex SPF 35 PA (P2,898) incorporates skincare, sun protection and whitening properties while leaving skin looking flawless and radiant. It contains very subtle shimmer to deflect from minor imperfections and making skin glow. It comes in six whitening shades with beige, rose, amber and ochre undertones.

If the significant man in your life finds almost every scent too strong that he sneezes or has a migraine, he is the type who wants his scents very light. Most likely, the fragrances he approves of are the likes of Calvin Klein Obsession, Bulgari Pour Homme and Polo Blue.
The scent is classified as fresh or smells so clean and light you practically have to be inches away to smell it. My husband is such a man and his latest choice is Boss Pure by Hugo Boss (P4,150, 75 ml; P3,250, 50 ml; P2,450, 30 ml). This woody fresh scent has a top note of pure water, middle notes of fig and muguet (Lily of the Valley) and a heart note of massoia wood.
It lasts surprisingly long, is undeniably masculine while being clean and light. Something about the fig makes my mouth water.
L’Occitane Verbena (P2,375) is for the man who is nuts about citrus. This truly unisex scent is a burst of zesty citrus that lasts and wakes anyone up no matter how bored they are.
Elegantly presented in a glass spray bottle engraved with the verbena leaf, it has notes of Mediterranean verbena with a rosy base of geranium and lemon tree.
Verbena is cherished for its soothing properties. L’Occitane exudes a zesty citrus scent. Its paradoxical nature makes it wonderful as a fragrance, and well-suited to skin and hair-care uses.
Also try Verbena Foaming Bath and Body Milk.
What you may appreciate about these two scents is the fact that they are not common despite smelling really fresh, clean and great.
