MANILA, Philippines—Cosmo Manille’s ace society photographer Alex Van Hagen doesn’t have time to celebrate his own birthday. So his friends and colleagues gave him a surprise party.

The fun get-together, dahlings, took place at the posh Manila Golf Club in Forbes Park, Makati, with party guru Nene Leonor and May Neri leading the coterie of charitable ladies: Chit Salud, Consul Mellie Ablaza, Nini Licaros, Karen Macasaet, Nonie Basilio, Lily Adina, Baby de Jesus, Mabel Abaño, Baby Ortiz, Annabelle Adriano, Carrie Bautista, Tessie Briones, Agnes Huibonhoa, Nini Layug, Tereret Liboro and Gilda Salonga.

Alex’s renowned guests fluttered like butterflies in a garden of secret delights. They talked about their latest charitable causes over sumptuous treats.

All the glamorous ladies made Alex’s afternoon especially unforgettable.

To our Alex V., cheers, palangga! May you be blessed with more happy days.

Family affair

Well-respected José Yulo Jr., brilliant Jaime I. Ayala and heir-to-the-throne Fernando Zobel recently held a celebration at Montecito. A sugar plantation of the Yulos is now an upscale residential community of Ayala Land Premier, with expansive greens plus a cool private lake where families can experience quiet comfort, dahlings.

The get-together called “Recuerdos into the Now” symbolizes the friendship between the Yulo and Ayala families.

Fernando Z. and Maia Yulo-La O’ welcomed the invitees that awesome afternoon, palanggas. The grand design of the Pasa Tiempo by a Yulo relative, Leandro Locsin, plus the vintage cars parked outside “made it feel like the good old days,” palanggas.

The excellently prepared lunch at the Pasa Tiempo hall by Via Mare included a menu fit for a fiesta. A hot cup of tsokolate capped the sumptuous lunch.

As a bonus, Sofia Zobel’s popular Elizalde’s Steps dancers did a breathtaking number.

Then Fernando Zobel and Maia Yulo-La O’ gave a toast. “This was really born out of a vision and partnership in values. The Yulos have brought forth a naturally beautiful setting, thoughtfully planned and nurtured,” said F. Zobel.

Yeah, palanggas, the 60-hectare residential area in Canlubang, Laguna, is environmental-friendly, dahlings.

Fashion and technology

Dunhill and Metrobank Platinum Mastercard recently introduced the technological advancements of Bang and Olufsen (B&O), the awesome leader in creating brilliant design products, palanggas.

The posh Gallery of chi-chi G5, was full of Platinum cardholders who enjoyed having the latest Bang and Olufsen equipment at 0-percent installment. Not bad, palanggas.

Circulating with the invitees were hotshots of Metrobank, Bang and Olufsen, and Dunhill. A piano and flute concert was held while handsome models showed off the latest Spring-Summer men’s collection for 2008, dahlings.

Portrait of elegance

September has just started yet we already hear of bazaars, charity balls and fund-raisers, dahlings. But the one organization that is working double time is the Catholic Women’s Club (CWC). It’s all set for its grand annual charity ball on Sept. 5, with the theme “Portraits of Elegance,” palanggas. The super event will be held at the Main Lounge of the Manila Polo Club. This year’s chair is hardworking and dedicated Leonida “Baby” Bayani Ortiz, no less, with co-chairpersons Kim Lokin and Baby de Jesus.

“The Catholic Women’s Club founded in 1921 is one of the country’s oldest charity organizations and is composed of successful women who are also leaders in their respective fields,” explained by another dedicated member, Mimi Valerio.

She also said this CWC ball is “for the benefit of more than 90 charity organizations, including the Elsie Gaches Village which regularly depends on the CWC for its lifeline support.”

Another worthy cause from the women who truly care for the less fortunate, palanggas.
