MANILA, Philippines—Dr. Ramon Ricardo A. Roque, Ceso l, has been an achiever all his life: Cardie was a scholar, an outstanding athlete and an exemplary student leader. As Deputy Secretary General at the House of Representatives, he is the highest career official in Congress.

A dyed-in-the-wool Red Lion, he has been with San Beda College’s Board of Trustees for eight years. He’s a regent at the Quezon City Polytechnic University and the Center for International Education in Cebu, and teaches at the UST and San Beda graduate schools. In the past, he served as president of the Philippine Council of Management and director of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and sat on the faculty of the Ateneo and La Salle’s graduate schools.

Busy schedule

Despite his busy schedule, Cardie has managed to co-write two books, coach a swimming team and serve as vice president of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association. He writes “That’s the Spirit,” a weekly column (for Tempo).

Cardie has lived a colorful and meaningful life—in government, sports, media and the academe. Happy 50th birthday, Cardie!
