MANILA, Philippines - The Chemical Engineering Class of 1968 at the Cebu Institute of Technology held a reunion at Tambuli beach resort to celebrate a memorable Ruby Jubilee (40 years).
Some of them have been in touch with each other all these years, while others haven?t. The research and contacting paid off. Many turned up for the two-day celebration.
Norma Sanchez was at the forefront of the main event. It started with a mass by Rev. Fr. Myzon Camay, OAD, and for the rest of the day, it was fun, fun, fun at the beach. A special guest was Rudy Fuentes, back in 1968 CIT?s King of Engineers.
Cathy Corral and Jesefel Oyao made sure everything was tip-top. More than anything else, the gathering was for bonding, updating and catching up on each other. Also for reminiscing?equations, formulas, experiments, professors? quirks and their own.
Alumni and alumnae came from Manila, Zamboanga, nearby Masbate and Leyte, and also from afar, such as Taiwan, USA and Australia. They compared notes, showed photos of children and grandchildren, and took appraisals on how gracefully they had ?aged.?
The Rocking Rubies, as they called themselves on this jubilee year, proved their agility and drive by singing, dancing and even swimming ?for those bold enough to bare,? said Norma.
Now, they?re thinking of making a yearly celebration all the way up to the 50th anniversary. They?ve already turned to gold as it is.
