MANILA, Philippines?Summer is over, but you can still keep that golden glow. Brushing on some bronzer can do the trick. And it doesn?t require many hours roasting under the sun (or tanning bed) or messy applications from self-tanners. The bronzer is no substitute for a tan, but it can give you natural glow.
A bronzer can be mistaken for a blusher or handy self-tanner. But it is actually meant to imitate how the sun falls on your face, just how you would look after spending a weekend at the beach. The best part is you can control the amount of bronzer you put on your face. Maybelline?s chief makeup artist Barbie Chan tells us the right way to wear a bronzer.
Think sun-kissed. A bronzer should be applied on the parts of the face that tan easily like cheekbones, the bones above the temple, bridge of the nose and chin. ?The effect that you want when using bronzer is sun-kissed,? says Chan. The goal is not to look brown, but to add golden color to your natural skin tone.
Go by your skin tone. ?The rule of thumb is the fairer your skin, the lighter the shade of your bronzer,? says Chan. Bronzer should never be more than two shades darker than your skin tone, or you?ll end up looking dirty. For fair or mestiza skin tones, use pink or peach. An olive complexion should use copper and dark shades while morena skin will look great in orange-copper. But be careful with bronzers that are too orange. ?Too orange tones can make you look artificial,? says Chan.
Use the right tools. Powder bronzers usually come with applicators like mini brushes or powder puffs. These leave a streaky finish for they don?t spread the bronzer evenly. ?Powder bronzers glide on better using a short fluffy blush brush,? says Chan. Gel or cream-based bronzers can easily be applied with your fingers. But liquid bronzers may be too difficult to control and is probably best left to the experts.
Keep it natural. ?When wearing a bronzer, keep the rest of your makeup natural, using colors like beige, camel, ivory or bone. You?ll want to put emphasis on your skin, so keep the whole face muted,? says Chan. Finish off by applying a thin layer of bronzer to your neck and collarbones to match the color of your face.
