OLAY claims the amino-peptide complex in Regenerist works just as effectively as retinol, an active form of Vitamin A that’s widely recognized by skin experts as effective in combating fine lines and wrinkles—but without damaging the skin barrier.

MANILA, Philippines—You can zap your wrinkles without undergoing an expensive laser treatment.
At least that’s the claim of Olay Regenerist, a new generation anti-aging treatment from Procter & Gamble’s Olay product line.
To be launched in the Philippines in mid-November, Olay Regenerist has been enjoying a steady following in markets like the United States, Europe, Singapore and Thailand for a couple of years. It’s currently No. 1 in its category in China, according to Paulo Tirol, Olay’s assistant brand manager.
Regenerist is being introduced to the country for the first time.
The difference with similar products in the market, according to David Khoo, a skin care scientist with P&G in Singapore, is that the technology of Regenerist is moving from “skin care to cell care” by mimicking the process of laser treatment.
At a video conference with local media from the beauty company’s R&D center in Singapore on Wednesday, Khoo said laser treatments create microscopic wounds that produce amino-peptides, or small protein fragments, which stimulate cell regeneration.
Olay has created its very own amino-peptide complex that is delivered on the skin’s surface but goes deep down to the cellular level to repair damaged cells wrought by pollution and free radicals. It also helps the skin produce collagen and elastin. Collagen is what gives the skin its “shape,” while skin owes its supple texture to elastin. Cells are the building blocks of life; cell renewal, however, slows down as one ages.
Anti-oxidant
Khoo said the amino-peptide contained in Regenerist called carnosine is also a powerful antioxidant, that using a product containing it alone can reduce collagen damage by as much as 50 percent. In combination with Vitamin E and green tea extract, for instance, its antioxidant protection is increased by 30 percent. Regenerist claims to have more antioxidant power, gram for gram, than red grapes, avocado or broccoli.
Khoo said 95 percent of 200 dermatologists surveyed recently also agreed on the efficacy of amino-peptide complex in fighting skin aging without harming the skin barrier. He also showed a graph demonstrating that amino-peptide complex worked just as effectively as retinol, an active form of Vitamin A that’s widely recognized by skin experts as effective in combating fine lines and wrinkles.
In the Philippines, Olay will initially introduce the key products, including Regenerating Serum (P999), Eye-lifting Serum (P999), Regenerating Cream (P999) and Night Firming Cream (P999). An exfoliating cream cleanser, formulated for daily use, will retail for P299.
Customers who sign up in a priority list at www.olay.com.ph and www.femalenetwork.com will get first dibs at the pre-sale to be held on Oct. 18 at select Watsons outlets, a month before its countrywide release. Some highly-specialized products from the same line will also be exclusively sold at Watsons until January.
