Makeover 911
Remedies for holiday makeup hassles

MANILA, Philippines—As we approach the holidays, anticipate more parties. In my case, the major parties are called destination weddings or weddings that one can attend only after a long drive or an airplane ride.

The problem for those Oriental-eyed girls who are not expert makeup artists is elaborate eye makeup application for formal evenings.

I got to solve that problem by having eyelash weaves installed either at Philosophy salon on A. Arnaiz Avenue, Makati with “Maryanne,” who does Ruffa Gutierrez peepers for “The Buzz” and “I Love Betty La Fea” for P3,800; or Mikaela salon at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig with “Sherbeth” or “Rissa” for P3,500.

If you want Mikaela Bilbao herself to do your lashes, it’s going to cost you P4,500.

The eyelash weave is a more durable eyelash extension: the extensions are attached using the hair weaving technique. They look more natural as they are individually woven into lashes. They look thicker and wear longer.

Retouches are not necessary for at least a full month unless you try to yank them off individually and curl with an eyelash curler. There is no need for curling the eyelashes since the extensions will already be curling upwards and stay that way.

Eyelash weaves last me over two months. They look perfectly natural. The usual extensions die on me after three weeks as I am not a poised sleeper.

For extensions, some of my wealthy friends swear by “Miss Becky,” the Korean lady from YOU salon at Bonifacio Strip, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. But she charges a whopping P5,600 as patrons swear she is simply the best.

My tip: After your string of parties, give eyelashes a rest by not having weaves reattached right. The glue may weaken the lashes when reapplied too often.

You may have the remaining last strands removed at these same places when you only have very few left. Never attempt to remove them yourself or your natural lashes will snap off, leaving you bald-eyed or with uneven lengths.

Multitasking eye cream

Avon has done it again. Now we regular folks can avail ourselves of a high-quality potent multitasking eye cream for a very reasonable price with the Avon Anew Rejuvenate’s 24-hour eye cream Day Cream SPF 25 Night Cream.

It really does what it promises. Day Eye Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 25 UVA/UVB is scientifically designed to reduce undereye circles and protect against UVA/UVB damage to sensitive lid &under-eye areas.

Night Eye Cream is especially formulated to reduce undereye puffiness and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Clinique Rinse Off eye make-up solvent (P1,080 for 125 ml) is great for those days when your eye makeup cakes or smears on your already perfectly made up face.

The oil-free formula is applied with a tissue or cotton pad. It is lightly wiped on your closed lid or under-eye area so you can retouch it without affecting the rest of your made up face.

It’s easily rinsed off with water and does not leave you with a blurry vision or an oily feel. It’s perfect for those who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses.

Call YOU salon at 8181968; Mikaela salon at 8561926; Philosophy salon at 8921574; and Avon at 8642900.
