THIN brows are out. This season is all about strong and defined eyebrows that give the face depth and character.

Thicker brows can signify elegance, strength and intelligence, taking influence from iconic actresses like Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner and Audrey Hepburn. Wearing your eyebrows thicker can also make you look younger, as it softens the face and gives it a friendly look.

An over-plucked pair tends to make a person look perennially surprised or, worse, suspicious and shifty.

It has been said that ?if the eyes are the windows to one?s soul, the eyebrows must serve as its frame.? True enough, the eyebrows have the power to draw attention to our eyes, making them the focal point.

Take Brooke Shields and Cindy Crawford, for instance. Their brows were phenomenal in the ?90s, but somehow you also remembered how equally striking their eyes were.

Making the strong brow work for you is easy. There is no need to make any drastic changes to your look, as it still requires you to follow your natural eyebrow shape.

Be inspired by the gorgeously thick eyebrows of actresses Keira Knightley and Rachel Weisz, as well as models Hilary Rhoda, Anouck Lepère and Agyness Deyn.

Pluck sparingly. The key is to keep the thickness of the eyebrows while taking out the stray hairs that make the brows lose its shape. The hair should start at the inner eye and end past the outer corner; any hair outside of this should be removed. Adding a slight arch on the point where your outer iris ends (when looking straight ahead) suits most women.

Get dark, even brows. Fill in sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil using short, hair-like strokes. Then, soften the look by layering powder eyeshadow (in the same color) using a stiff, angled brush. Finish by grooming your brows with an eyebrow comb or brush.

Try using a brow gel. Many makeup brands, like MAC, Christian Dior, Laura Mercier and Make Up For Ever, carry tinted eyebrow gels that already fill in the brows while grooming it. Other options include using clear mascara or a bit of hairspray misted onto a brow brush. But this requires you to apply the eyebrow pencil and powder eye shadow combo first, in order to achieve dark, strong brows.
