Curly or straight—why not both?

“CURLY or straight?” Sunsilk posed this question to several people in the beauty and fashion industries when it launched its new line of Straight and Away and Curls and Waves hair products at the Rockwell Tent.

“The Great Hair Debate” had well-known personalities. Mark Nelson, Nancy Jane Castiliogne, Preview Editor Agoo Bengzon and salon owner Stefan Wolinski were on Team Straight, while Wilma Doesnt, Stephen Ku, Metro Editor Ericka Paredes and salon owner Tonette Puyat peopled Team Curly.

The hosts were Karen Pamintuan and Maggie Wilson, whose hairstyles represented Team Straight and Team Curly, respectively.

Spirited

The ever-funny Wilma Doesnt started the ball rolling with, “Ang mga may curly hair lang ang may animalistic appeal!” to the delight of the audience that held up “Straight” and “Curly” placards.

Wolinski said, “I remember going to this event last night, and I saw this beautiful, tall, dark-skinned woman, who had her hair very much straightened.”

“Hindi ako yun, hindi na nga ako lumalabas eh!” replied Doesnt. The exchange between the two camps was often that spirited and hilarious.

Top UK hairstylist and International Creative Director for Saks Andrew Barton, whose famous clients include Kate Moss, the Olsen twins and Linda Evangelista, flew in to attend the launch.

The internationally-renowned stylist was involved in conceptualizing and developing this specific line of Sunsilk products, from packaging and testing to its international launch.

“This line was four years in the making,” he said.

“The Sunsilk girl is at a time when she can do more with her hair, where anything goes,” he added.

Talking about his celebrity clients, he revealed: “I just recently got to work on J.Lo’s hair. We changed her look a bit since it was getting kind of old. We made her locks looser and younger.”

Does he recommend Sunsilk’s Straight and Sway and Curls and Waves to his clients? “Definitely!” he said.

Beeswax

A lucky girl from the audience was given the chance to get her hair styled by Barton—all in five minutes—using the Curls and Waves mousse.

“The Curls and Waves line contains beeswax energizers, which tames the curls while giving it a more pronounced look,” Jay Abola, Sunsilk’s brand manager, explained.

The Curls and Waves line has mousse, shampoo and conditioner. The Straight and Sway counterpart, meanwhile, consists of a shampoo, conditioner, Weight and Sway cream, and a texturizing wax, all containing beeswax energizers, but this time targeting the tips of the hair to weigh them down for a shiny, extra-straight look.

Sunsilk’s new international ad features no less than Madonna, and after the debate, the ad was previewed to the audience before it debuted on prime-time TV that night.

With the new Straight and Sway and Curls and Waves lines, you don’t have to ask yourself, “curly or straight?” Sunsilk will let you experience both looks in a snap.
