WITH the season jam-packed with festivities, it may seem like the perfect time to go all-out and experiment with different makeup looks. But, more often than not, we would much rather go to a party and forget we even have makeup on.
High-maintenance makeup can be a letdown at a fun celebration.
You may miss the high point of a party if you’re too busy going back and forth to the bathroom, touching up your makeup.
The key is to go for a high-impact look that’s easy to maintain. Keep the focus on the eyes and go easy on the lipstick. Here’s how to get the look:
Eyes
“To get party-ready eyes, sweep a light shade of eye shadow on your lids up to your brow bone (try Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Bone) and define your crease with a nude to medium shade,” says makeup artist Pia Reyes.
“If you wish to use shimmer on your eyes, make sure to use the ones with very fine particles for a subtle highlight.”
You may top it off with either pencil or liquid eyeliner, depending on how steady your hand is and how comfortable you are using liquid liner.
“If you choose to wear pencil eyeliner, line both your top and bottom lash lines and include the inside of the eyes to intensify the look,” suggests makeup artist Grace Deang.
“For liquid eyeliner, line only the top part of your lash line and buildup for more definition (try Revlon’s Waterproof Liquid Liner).”
“Define the lower lash line with a taupe-colored eye shadow to make your eyes look bigger,” adds Reyes.
Finish with two to three coats of mascara or put in false eyelashes instead.
Face
“Holiday makeup is usually more shimmery. Choose subtle sparkles that come in a blush (try Nars Blush in Orgasm), rather than big glitters that can look tacky. But for ladies with oily skin, it may be better to stick to a matte finish powder and blush,” says Deang.
Eyebrows
The eyebrows must be defined to balance out the strong eyes. “Try a taupe eyebrow color, in pencil or powder form, for a subtle but well-shaped pair,” says Reyes.
Lips
A nude shade of lipstick topped with gloss suits the look perfectly. “It brings out the intensity of the eyes,” explains Deang.
You need not bring your entire kikay kit to a party. Bring only the essentials, so you have the freedom to move and have fun—“oil-control film (for your T-zone); lip gloss (for a quick retouch after meals); and a small pack of tissue,” enumerates Reyes.
Deang adds, “a powder compact may also be useful after a few hours at a party.”
