FOR many people, the worlds of movie, theater and fashion are a utopia of beauty and glamour, free of the limitations of time and reality.
Who doesn?t dream of becoming a superstar or model and taking part in the benefits of eternal youth and perfection?
Truth is, their world is far from faultless. As much as we?d like to think they roll out of bed looking like that, they go through a long and arduous process to transform themselves into nothing less than flawless-looking creatures.
It?s no surprise that every successful icon makes sure to book the most trusted makeup artists for their major movies and campaigns. Makeup artists play a big part in fashion, stage, film and television productions.
Those privy to this secret have followed suit, demanding that same transformation for weddings and other special occasions. Such is the power of makeup and the profound difference it makes.
We?re only too proud to see the Philippines? first-ever freelance makeup artist organization hold its premiere exhibit this holiday season. The Makeup Forum, composed of professional makeup artists and freelance artists alike, has produced a showcase of amazing photography and fabulous makeup in an effort to promote local talent in the field.
Led by Lourd Ramos (president) and Archie Tolentino (chairman), the organization offers a wide variety of professional makeup services ranging from bridal to commercial work.
These two standout photos (seen at the right of the page) from their recent exhibit are just a sample of their amazing ability. Its members explain the concepts and present a piece of their vision.
Title: Professionalism

Makeup artist: Yen Uy
Concept: Professionalism; best shown by the quality of work one delivers. This look embodies the person who makes excellence happen.
The Look: ?For the base, I used Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation in Medium Ivory followed by Laura Mercier Translucent Powder to set. High-arch eyebrows are created using Laura Mercier eyebrow pencil in Warm Brunette. The eyes are contoured using a dark shadow and finished by lining the eyes with Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeliner in Black. The look is completed with very defined violet-red lips.? ?Yen Uy
Title: Enthusiasm
Model: Jedah Hernandez
Hairstylist: Steph Escobido
Photographer: Maan Palmiery
Makeup artist: Chichi Sotomil
Concept: Enthusiasm is passion with a dose of energy and fun. It is a positive feeling that is at once intense and lighthearted.
The look: ?Keeping these concepts in mind, I wanted to interpret enthusiasm with a makeup look that is powerful and happy at the same time. To give the look an edge, I used red and orange as eye shadow, extended the orange shade as nose contour, and lined the upper lash lines with black gel eyeliner. At the same time, I kept the eyebrows undefined, highlighted the inner corners of the eyes with gold, and colored the lips with a soft coral shade to brighten the look.? ?Chichi Sotomil
