MOM AND KID RECIPE
Rainbow butter cookies

HERE?S a recipe moms (or dads) can do together with their kids this holiday season. It?s easy and fun?and the cookies are really delicious. They make ideal Christmas gifts, too. Just make sure to pack them in airtight containers so they don?t get soggy.

Rainbow Butter Cookies

2 ? c all-purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
? tsp salt
1 c butter
1 ? c sugar
2 eggs
Rainbow sprinkles

Mom?s part: Heat oven to 375 ?F (180 ?C). Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt in a bowl.

Kid?s part: Stir flour mixture with a large spoon.

Mom?s part: Cream butter in an electric mixer. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Beat in eggs. Add the flour mixture and continue beating, just until ingredients are blended.

Mom and kid together: Shape dough by rounded tablespoonfuls into balls. Place on ungreased cookie pans about 2 inches apart. Flatten each dough ball slightly with the back of a teaspoon or small spatula.

Sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top of each dough ball.

Mom?s part: Put cookie pans in oven (one at a time) and bake for 8-9 minutes or until lightly browned at the edges. Immediately transfer cookies to a cooling rack. Keep in airtight containers.

Tips

Make sure butter is at room temperature (not straight out of the refrigerator) so it beats more easily.

Once the flour mixture has been added to the butter mixture, do not overbeat. Beat only until blended and no white flour is visible. Otherwise, the cookies will be tough.

You can put as much or as few rainbow sprinkles as you wish.

Make sure to remove cookies from the cookie pans as soon as you take them out of the oven. If you don?t, the cookies will stick to the pan and will be difficult to remove.
