Part 2
IF the existence of Atlantis is difficult to prove, it is much more difficult to prove the existence of an older advanced continent known as Lemuria, because there is no scientist, researcher or witness who has ever claimed to have seen or heard about it. Almost all the bits of information about Lemuria come from occult literature or esoteric tradition and are, therefore, much more easily dismissed or ignored by mainstream historians, archeologists and anthropologists.
But the story of lost civilizations has persisted through the centuries because there remain so many unanswered questions that have puzzled and plagued scientists and scholars. How can they explain the astonishingly accurate knowledge by the ancient Mayas of the planetary movements without the use of instruments? How could the Egyptians build the huge pyramids, which required the transporting and lifting of massive, heavy stones without cranes and other modern equipment?
Before Atlantis, some researchers believed there was still an older civilization called Lemuria, which was the original cradle of human civilization or motherland. It existed some 150,000 years ago.
Whereas the Atlanteans had developed tremendous mental powers and very advanced technology, the Lemurians were thought to be more spiritual or mystical and had very high telepathic abilities. They could communicate with one another over long distances telepathically. One writer described the Lemurians as gigantic creatures about 10 to 12-ft tall, brown-skinned, with thick eyebrows and large foreheads. Their Third Eye or clairvoyant vision was highly developed.
Huge continent
The continent of Lemuria was so huge it occupied almost half of the known world at the time. Because of the misuse of their powers, coupled with natural cataclysms, such as great volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and great floods, the continent, despite its huge size, sank beneath the Pacific Ocean, not suddenly, as Atlantis did, but in more gradual stages. Since their sages and priests knew of the forthcoming catastrophe, many of the inhabitants were able to escape or migrate to other lands. Some of them crossed the big ocean and landed in Atlantis and became Atlanteans.
Some people believe that we, Filipinos, are descendants of Lemuria, because as a people, we have strong spiritual values and have highly developed telepathic powers, traits attributed to Lemurians which had brown color of skin like Filipinos and, for that matter, the whole Indo-Malay race. Therefore, we can say that Indonesians, Malaysians and even the Aborigines of Australia come from Lemuria.
According to Helena P. Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical Society, Lemurians belong to the Third Root Race. She obtained the information from channeled sources dictated to her by so-called Masters of Esoteric Wisdom, highly evolved beings no longer in physical form.
In her massive book called ?The Secret Doctrine,? Blavatsky described seven root races. The First Root Race were invisible beings made of fire mist and who lived in an imperishable sacred land. The Second Root Race were already visible physically and inhabited the former Arctic continent of Hyperborea. The Third Root Race were the Lemurians.
In her view, the Lemurians were ?gigantic brainless, ape-like creatures,? quite unlike what others have described them to be, namely, highly advanced and in possession of strong telepathic and spiritual powers.
The Fourth Root Race were the Atlanteans who were destroyed through black magic.
We are the Fifth Root Race, according to Blavatsky, and the Sixth will evolve from us and return to live on Lemuria. After the Seventh Root Race, life will leave our planet and start afresh on Mercury.
As you can see, there are as many opinions about these lost civilizations as there are writers on the topic. There is absolutely no known record, artifact, monument or inscription found about Lemuria. No one can prove it ever existed. But the stories about a great flood that destroyed almost all inhabitants of earth are recalled by many ancient people around the world. So, is this some kind of collective folk memory of an actual event that happened long, long ago? Only God knows!
