Wayfarers still the way to go in 2009

SUNGLASS shapes and styles for men in past seasons have run the gamut from sporty wraparounds to futuristic face-hugging styles, angular designs to oversized dark eye saucers.

Still, it?s hard to beat a classic. Time-tested styles keep coming back, if with a few modern tweaks.

Aviator frames made a big comeback in 2007, and wayfarer shades, the signature eyepiece worn by icons like Tom Cruise and Bob Dylan, took the spotlight once again this year, in several color incarnations.

So what?s the outlook for men?s optics in 2009?

We?ll still be seeing a lot of the classic wayfarer shape, but with a few fine-tuned details such as double bridges and bright colors.

When choosing styles, remember that the color and shape of the frame you choose should depend not only on your personal style and preference, but how well the frame goes your face.

If a frame is too large, or does not fit properly, it can often be adjusted. Metal frames can be bent slightly and screws tightened on the hinges, while plastic frames can be heated and reformed for better fit.

Wear shades; the future looks bright.
