Inside Out
Choose good food for the brain

NOURISHMENT equals growth. The quality and kind of food you eat directly affects your brain. That’s why there are “smarter” foods than others. If you nourish your brain, it will grow healthier and smarter.

Eat omega-3-rich fish, whose oil works wonders on brain cells. In fact, some mothers of children with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHA (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) give their kids a diet of fish and vegetables, plus supplementation of fish oil capsules.

One mother of an eight-year-old reported a 50-percent improvement on her son’s condition after one month on this special regimen. Individuals on a fish diet are able to think faster and have better memories. And that’s because fish is considered brain food.

Fat is good. Butter, good fat and carbo are excellent brain boosters. Legumes (beans, pulses) and nuts provide the fats necessary for good brain function. Caution: Try to eat salt-free nuts in their natural state. The high sodium content of commercially prepared nuts will not be good for you.

Go lean on your meats. Animal fat is considered saturated, and it can speed up the process of free-radical damage. The high iron in animal-derived fats can also contribute to a faster aging process. So, don’t begin to wonder why your memory fails you more frequently each time you eat more beef or pork than fish.

More than just your regular apple, a banana a day keeps stroke away. It’s true. Scientific studies have proven that the rate of fatal stroke decreases by 40 percent when there is a regular intake of potassium. Therefore, eat bananas and apples and drink milk daily.

Excessive sugar intake speeds up the brain’s aging process. A sweet taste on the lips is a slow poison to the brain. In fact, studies show the connection between high blood sugar and the risks of Alzheimer’s disease. Brain-related disorders may also be sugar-induced, like poor concentration, hyperactivity, etc.

Polyphenols, antioxidants found in tea, red wine, fruits and vegetables protect blood vessels, boosts estrogen levels and prevents inflammation. There is credence to the universal toast, “Let’s drink to good health!”

So, the next time you raise your wine glasses, know that drinking moderate amounts of wine will definitely lead to good health.

Also, dip a ball of cotton in your glass of leftover white wine. Dab and clean your face. Watch how amazingly it wipes away the dirt.

AFFIRM: “I toast to the good life!”

Love & light!
