?READ to Bridge Oceans? is the title of a book and photo exhibit that will be launched next month at SM Mall of Asia by the Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation. In memory of Gig Oca Robles, the foundation will be presented on March 9 after the 8 a.m. Mass at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Lantana st., Cubao, Quezon City.
Gig, who ?went back to his heavenly home on March 9, 2007, at age 17,? was well-loved for his humility and compassion. From the book, here are some lines from a poem Gig wrote:
?Thank you, Lord,
For my home
For the Philippines
It?s a wonderful country.
This life
I hope I live it properly.
Thank you for this earth,
This universe, this dimension.
For the air I breathe, the water I drink,
For the people around me,
And for the rest of the world.
Thank you, Lord, for the Pope and the Dalai Lama
And all those who advocate peace.?
Through the foundation, Marissa Oca strengthens her reading advocacy for seafarers? children. In cooperation with the Associated Marine Officers? and Seamen?s Union of the Philippines-PTGWO-ITF, it aims to develop the habit of reading.
Marissa believes that reading to kids 20 minutes before bedtime can help strengthen the bond between parents and their kids.
As a result, children will have a better understanding of the world and the human condition, because reading helps instill values.
