Greater value than gold

MANILA, Philippines ? Here?s a funny Chinese story, from which we can derive important lessons: Once upon a time, there was a man named Zhang San. One day, he happened to find a pot of gold. He was very afraid that people would steal it.

Solution

So, he dug up a big hole in his backyard and buried the gold in it. Still, he was afraid that it would get stolen. Then, he thought of a solution: He put up a wooden sign with the message, ?There is no gold here.? He looked at the sign happily, then went home to sleep.

As soon as Zhang left, his neighbor, Li Si, hurriedly came over and stole all the gold. He was afraid, however, that Zhang would suspect him of committing the crime. Thus, he put up a wooden sign that stated: ?Li Si did not steal the gold.? Lessons:

1. Our mind is not a trustworthy teacher.

2. Even fools think they?re very smart.

3. Greed makes people blind.

4. Thou shall not steal or covet thy neighbors? goods.

5. The law of karma exposes the criminals.

6. Those who steal live in fear.

A life of peace is enjoyed by those who live with wisdom, simplicity and contentment. Living in peace has greater value than gold.
