The green homes of Nuvali

MANILA, Philippines ? Encouraged by an ecologically responsible proponent, and after intensive study and research, all systems are go for the Green Home. This project is envisioned within the Avida Settings development in Nuvali, which is Ayala Land?s most eco-friendly development yet.

The objective of the undertaking is to show people how to create a passively cool home, which means that a structure can be built in such a way that the temperature can be comfortable within, while still maintaining low energy consumption. It also illustrates the use of recycled materials for finishes and décor.

The resulting design is a version based on the three original models in the Avida Settings menu. The most prominent feature upgrade is a roof vent. This is intended to naturally ventilate the ceiling space as well as the indoor spaces; it induces warm air to rise and forces cooler air to enter.

Another significant feature is the wide profile jalousie windows and full swing doors which allow for bigger openings, taking advantage of the generous open spaces that the development offers.

Thoughtfully designed

Likewise a noteworthy improvement is the wooden sun screen which protects the bedroom from direct sunlight, as well as the use of a double wall to shield the living room.

To further enhance the model, the interiors were thoughtfully designed by another advocate of Green Architecture, Lui Daya. She made use of recycled materials to finish and spruce up the look, giving the rooms a young and airy feel.

Outdoors, Nuvali boasts of generous open spaces, making it a pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly community. The development features many green ribbons,? which is a common park located behind groups of lots. Homeowners have direct access to these small parks that also serve as an extension of their garden.

The way the common areas are landscaped helps maintain an ecological balance. Unlike most developments which are solely after yield and profitability, this one focuses more on the benefits the homeowners can enjoy from living in an eco-friendly environment.
