Swatch for Ateneo’s sesquicentennial

(Thumbs up) THAT?S no tongue-twister. That?s a milestone even in pop art.

One hundred and fifty years ago, the Jesuits first arrived in Manila to conduct missions in Mindanao. But upon the request of the people of Manila, the Escuela Municipal de Manila was inaugurated on Dec. 10, 1859. The school was located right across the San Ignacio Church in Intramuros and was the very first Ateneo campus.

Last June 14, the Ateneo de Manila University and the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus celebrated their sesquicentennial or 150th anniversary with a mass at Manila Cathedral. The kickoff mass marked the beginning of the university?s sesquicentennial celebrations. The sesquicentennial festivities of the Ateneo have three running themes: Celebrating Excellence, Deepening Spirituality and Building the Nation.

Ateneo and Swatch collaborated to create memorabilia to mark this sesquicentennial milestone.

The limited-edition Ateneo Watch by Swatch was designed by Ateneo senior student Jason Nallas. Proceeds will be donated to the ?500 at 150 Sesquicentennial Scholarship Campaign.? The objective is to send 500 scholars to study in Ateneo.

The Ateneo Watch by Swatch is exclusively available at the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations, Alingal Hall in Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights and in all Swatch stores in the Philippines.

(Thumbs up) All-black power wedding in Cebu

CEBU is abuzz about this big wedding on July 18. The color motif defies convention ? black, which the Chinese shun.

But to the wedding couple, black means drama. Hervé Lampert, 33, president of Dedon Furniture, (yes, that expensive status symbol outdoor furniture brand is made in Cebu) and businesswoman Tess Gonzales, 35, will be tying the knot at the city cathedral. It will be his first marriage and the bride?s second. The black gown will be designed by Cary Santiago.

Principal sponsors are a power cast ? Amparito Lhuillier, Mariquita Yeung, Mary Ann Tirol, Teresin Mendezona, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia and Pinky Chang.

Male sponsors include Michel Lhuillier, Gregg Huettel, and Wing Lip Chang. About 40 guests will fly in from France.

The cavernous ballroom of Waterfront Hotel will have only 110 guests, all seated at a very long table.

(Thumbs up) Former first lady (no, not Imelda) shopping in Greece

When a Filipino tourist made a purchase in a shop on Santorini islands in Greece, the salesperson said he was the second visitor from the Philippines. The salesperson said the Philippine First Lady had already bought a glass and metal art piece.

The tourist was surprised since the Philippines has a First Gentleman. Was Imelda Marcos jet-setting again? A look at the guest registry revealed ?Loi Ejercito.?
