MANILA, Philippines ? There are days when nothing is more comforting than a stack of fluffy blueberry pancakes right off the pan, loaded with maple syrup and topped with creamy butter, accompanied by a pot of coffee to complete the deal.

Feeling sinful? How about a breakfast platter of sausages, corned beef, crispy bacon strips, toasts, and eggs done your way?

Flapjacks offers these breakfast fare and more all day. ?Flapjacks is not just a breakfast place. While the food is American-style, we tweaked it a bit for the Pinoy palate,? says marketing director Lisa Ronquillo.

Sugar high

Its bestsellers include the pancake stacks that come in Double Blueberry (buttermilk pancakes with blueberry bits slathered with blueberry compote. Go blueberry OD!); Original Buttermilk; Toffee Banana (with banana slices, caramel syrup and whipped butter); Chocolate Overload (drizzled warm chocolate syrup and chocolate chips).
Have it in stacks of three, five or eight layers. But please do not eat it alone.

Coffee junkies have a reason to freak out with Flapjacks? Endless Coffee?bottomless, refillable coffee in a pot you can drink till you get your fix?for barely the price of an eight-ounce cup of ?designer coffee.?

The ?barkada? and families can go for the Grand Slammers that allow them to have bits and pieces of everything. ?Silog? lovers would enjoy the All-Filipino Slammer (bangus, beef tapa, garlic rice and eggs); another option is the All-American Slammer (pancakes, sausages, bacon, hash browns and eggs); while a healthier alternative is the Lite Slammer (lettuce tossed in lemon-cilantro dressing, toasted wheat bread, fresh fruits and chunky chicken salad).

Fun and funky

Flapjacks now has four branches since its opening last year. All branches have inviting, comfy couches and seats ideal for people who want to enjoy their meals. The purple, yellow, and orange interiors lend a fun, funky vibe.

?Our Greenhills branch is a favorite among the older crowd who go there after a round of jogging,? Ronquillo says. ?It?s open as early as 6 a.m.?

The little ones have their own menu as well?Kiddie Pancakes, Nuggets for Littlies, Kid?s Hotdog, Jr. Spaghettia and Flapjacks Fried Chicken.

Go light

Eating healthy has been a byword, and while Flapjacks intends to make foodies happy, it also has something for those who watch their diets religiously. Easy-on-the-tummy selections include Puttanesca with Angel Hair Pasta, Tender Ginger Chicken Breast, Chilled Mango Salad or Asian-Lite Salad.

A healthier menu is in the works, says Ronquillo. ?We will be coming up with low-salt and low-fat entrees, whole-grain and sugar-free pancakes.?

And oh, the free Wi-Fi just makes this restaurant sweeter.

Flapjacks branches are in Greenbelt 2, Makati (tel. 7299121); Theatre Mall, Greenhills, San Juan (4411315); Robinsons Midtown Manila (5672745) and UP Ayala Technohub Commonwealth, QC (4411315).
