MANILA, Philippines -- Trying to help his son from being severely mauled by a neighbor proved fatal to a 43-year-old employee as he was stabbed and killed by the suspect, who immediately fled from the crime scene in Quezon City on Thursday night, police said.
Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, chief of the homicide investigation division of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the victim as Ranny Som Mones, 43, of No. 72 ROTC Hunters St., Barangay (village) Tatalon, Galas, Quezon City.
Elenzano said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds in the body and was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Investigation showed that the victim?s son, Renato was watching a billiards game near their home at around 9 p.m. when the suspect appeared and suddenly started beating the victim?s son.
?The victim, who saw the incident, approached the suspect, but was immediately stabbed by the suspect,? police said.
Police said they have yet to determine the motive of the mauling.
Police are now looking for the suspect identified as Dingdong Lipata.
