MANILA, Philippines ? The Philippine National Police is set to investigate the supposed presence of American military contractor Blackwater in Subic free port, as alleged by an online investigative report.
PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina said on Monday that the police?s Security Agencies and Guards Supervision Division (SAGSD) and Central Luzon police would be looking into reports that Satelles Solutions, a Blackwater subsidiary, was using a five-acre facility in Subic to train operatives for military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and areas.
As of now, however, police have yet to receive any information on the report, he said.
In a story posted August 28 on the Russia Today website, investigative journalist Wayne Madsen claimed that the country has become a ?major operating base? for the Blackwater subsidiary.
Blackwater was founded by a former US Navy Seal in North Carolina.
?We will have to look at the basic facts first,? Espina said. ?Is it true that the facility exists? If it does, what is the company all about? Is the training ground authorized??
Under the law, Espina said that firms conducting security training here should be owned and operated by someone who is 100 percent Filipino.
?We will investigate if illegalities are going on,? he added.
The Subic bay authority has denied Blackwater was operating inside the former US naval base north of Manila.
