AS HIS ?last act? for the Osmeña clan, Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he wants to convert a 10-hectare land in barangay Kalunasan into a cemetery in honor of Don Sergio Osmeña Sr.
?Let this be the last official act of the Osmeñas in the city. I am proposing that we convert the Don Sergio Shrine site as a Don Sergio Osmeña interfaith memorial park for the urban poor and for the people from various faith,? the mayor announced during the traditional flower offering for the 31st birth anniversary of the last president.
The 10 hectare city property in Kalunasan can be more useful as a cemetery for people of different religions than just a shrine.
The property will be divided to accomodate various religions, said the mayor, adding that this would requires exhaustive dialogue with many sectors.
The project may finish after his term in 2010 but he wants to start discussions now, tasking Councilor Richie Osmeña and Alvin Dizon.
?I am more concerned that it is done correctly,? the mayor said.
He said if there is resistance from Kalunasan residents, he was confident of addressing theri issues, including making sure downhill drainage will exit in the Guadalupe River.
