BATHING is something we do every day. There is, however, a right way to bathe ? a topic I?m given the opportunity to address through a new batch of five questions e-mailed to me at riaprieto@yahoo.com.
How important are body scrubs?
Using body scrubs helps remove dead skin cells. By scrubbing, you exfoliate the top layer of your skin, leaving it smoother and allowing it to absorb your moisturizer better. It also prevents nasty ingrown hair and breakouts.
Scrub in a circular motion for better circulation. I recommend using sugar as scrub, brown or white, especially if you?re on a budget. Brown sugar smells really good and is warm on the skin. It is also gentler than salt scrubs and is very relaxing.
Which is better, moisturizer oil or lotion?
It really depends on your preference. Some people prefer lotion since they say oil makes them feel hot, while others go for oil because they find lotion too sticky. The important thing is to moisturize daily; the best time to do so is after a bath, while your skin is still damp.
I have very oily hair and have tried most shampoos for oily hair with no success. Any other thing I can do?
Don?t use conditioner everyday, only when needed. Also, put powder on your scalp before going to bed to absorb excess oil. In the morning, comb your hair, then shampoo with warm water.
Can I use my mild body wash on my face?
Never. Even the mildest body soap would be too harsh on our face. Facial soaps, though, are particularly designed for facial skin. In fact, if you have a facial cloth and did not use makeup, you can skip using soap altogether. Choose a facial soap according to your skin type and need to avoid any irritation.
What?s the danger in sharing towels?
Aside from it being very unhygienic, this is one way warts and other skin diseases are passed on. Also, use a separate towel for your face and body.
