TRAGEDY can bring out the best in the human spirit.
?Ondoy? has motivated many people to come out of their comfort zones, get their feet muddy and help the flood victims. Truly, compassion is high fashion.
One prominent logo that?s been ubiquitous on Facebook and Twitter is the red and white cross of the Philippine National Red Cross. They have been tirelessly working 24/7 to mobilize rescue operations and provide assistance to affected areas.
This year, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) is the major beneficiary of fashion house Folded&Hung?s latest charity campaign.
Samaritan fund
There is a minimal expense in collecting and processing one unit of safe and quality blood which costs P1,500 at blood centers.
PNRC records show that patients on an average need more than one unit of blood. Despite the minimal cost, a great number of Filipinos cannot afford to buy even one unit of blood.
Fortunately, through the Red Cross Blood Samaritan Fund, charity patients can access their blood requirements for free.
FH and its affiliated companies, Jellybean Women?s Apparel Store and Wade shoes, support Red Cross and its programs. This year, F&H launched the Red for Life charity campaign.
FH, Wade shoes and Jellybean Stores are currently selling a variety of specially marked FH/Red Cross Unity Dolls for P50. These dolls represent the campaign?s slogan: Different faces, different lives, one goal, one cause, together let?s be one. The funds raised from the campaign will be donated to PNRC Blood Samaritan Fund.
On October 25, Sunday, the culmination of the campaign will be celebrated with the Red for Life event at the Sky Dome, SM North Edsa Garden. The event will feature a Red Fair offering food, drinks and activities for free. Among the celebrities attending are Megan Young, Maja Salvador and Angel Locsin. Sign-up booths for volunteers will also be installed to gather recruits to the Red Cross projects and activities, including the latest relief efforts.
Every little bit can help out. And lest we forget, let?s be thankful that we?re on the giving end.
