THE executor of the Balili Estate yesterday assured members of the review committee of the Cebu provincial government that a substantial amount of the money he received as payment for the beach lot sales remained untouched.

Lawyer Romeo Balili gave the review committee headed by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regional director Medardo De Lemos a verbal accounting of the lot sales proceeds.

He also promised the committee that he would provide their estate court, Judge Ester Veloso of Regional Trial Court Branch 6, a written accounting of the money that the Capitol released in 2008 in two payments.

?We were able to confront him face to face and he categorically told us where the money went and how much was left,? said Rory Jon Sepulveda, Capitol consultant on information and revenue generation.

Sepulveda, who sits in the review committee on behalf of Gov. Gwen Garcia, said the committee was about to wrap up their review on the 24.7 hectare lot purchase worth P98.9 million.

The review committee investigation is separate from the provincial board adhoc committee inquiry on the controversial deal.

Both the review committee and the PB adhoc committee are expected to come up with their reports and recommendations which would be submitted to Garcia.

PB members agreed during their session on Oct. 5 to continue of their Balili adhoc committee hearing after their weekly session on Oct. 12.

They are also expected to complete their investigation within the month.
