The Consumer
Who do you call when an appliance isn’t working?

MANILA, Philippines? Before you throw away those appliances and other household tools that were submerged in floodwaters, make sure they are no longer salvageable by getting a trained technician to look at them.

As mentioned in last week?s column, some gadgets may not have just collected water but mud and debris, too. So, even if you think they have dried completely, there might be stuff stuck to crevices that need to be removed and the appliance cleaned thoroughly to get it working at optimum level again.

You would not want to add the purchase of new appliances to the already high cost of having your house repaired because of damage caused by the floods.

I do not know how well you are able to let your fingers do the walking and find the things you need in the yellow pages. How they arrived at their classifications befuddles me. I still do not know where to look for what. Last week, for instance, I was looking for the local office of the Italian stove manufacturer Elba. I looked it up in just about every category listed in the yellow pages and could not find it anywhere. Fortunately, the alphabetical listing yielded the information I needed.

To help readers who may also find it difficult to get the information they need about their appliances? service centers, here are contact numbers provided by Robinsons Appliances. Actually, they also gave the addresses but listing them would take up so much space so I will just give you the phone numbers and you can call them up for their addresses.
