Fairy Tales, Hairy Tales

MANILA, Philippines - If fairy tales do come true, I would choose to be Rapunzel, on condition that Kérastase sponsors my hair treatment, L?Oréal supplies me with hair coloring and styling products and a 24/7 hairstylist at my constant service to whip up daily creations with my mile-long hair.

In the spectrum of hairstyles, I definitely fall under the extremely extravagant bracket. My hair?with everything styled, twisted, streaked and adorned into it?is an integral part of my flamboyant persona. My colorful personality is evident in my over-the-top attire that obviously includes my hair, to create that total impact.

Each important and memorable event is a planned process of creative minds. From the beautiful designer creation to the crystal-encrusted accessories, to the bejeweled shoes, and finally to the sky-high hair style and make-up, the monumental production is time-consuming. For the sake of hype and beauty, I have stretched my tolerance for pain and have learned to wait patiently on the salon chair.

If I were to rank my favorite hairstyles and make-up, my top three would be those taken for various photo exhibits where the total look and concept was a collaboration between the hairstylist and photographer. The captured photos are masterpieces!

My first choice is the shot by Sarah Black for the Hair Pin Photo Exhibit at the Ayala Museum. This was for the special anniversary of master stylist Pin Antonio and her team from Salon de Manila. Her niece, Scion Mangundayao, the daughter of Pin?s late sister, the stylist Ruby Tubig, transformed me into a most glamorous Marie Antoinette with natural-looking make-up and a bouffant blonde wig. The shot had a glow of perfection.

My second choice is the Geisha photograph by celebrated photographer Raymund Isaac for his 25th year in the business and the anniversary of Facial Care as well. As a tribute to the powerful women of the world, the concept of an Imperial Princess was chosen for me, but Raymund decided to put a playful twist to the composition. Hair and make-up expert Jingky Ilusorio did the amazing transformation in less than an hour. The hairpiece felt like a helmet that was strong enough for sky driving!

My third favorite is the mega-gigantic hairstyle created for the Davines International Hairstyle Calendar 2007. It was my most gravity-defying hairstyle ever! I was over 10 feet tall and the piece felt like a real peacock on my head. My mainstay stylist Victor Ortega of Emphasis Salon combined several wigs, feathers and accessories to produce a breath-taking masterpiece.

The epitome of magnificent hairstyles is one that brings out one?s real essence and personality. I have dared to cross countless barriers of hairstyling norms because I chose to enjoy radical concepts. Whether they be colored wigs or feathers or rhinestones, my unique hairstyles reflect my personality.

But a piece of advice to daring hair-setters: make sure your hair is healthy and fully conditioned for lasting hairstyles. Nothing beats healthy hair, and so thanks to Svenson Hair Center, my hair is protected to receive all the wonderful creations my stylists can offer.

My treasure trove of hair stories keeps growing. I continue to enjoy every one of them and am looking forward to more fascinating ones in the future!
