Shades of Sam

?I WOULD think twice about endorsing T-backs,? declares Sam Milby, who has managed to keep his knickers on despite a two-year stint in showbiz. The 25-year-old actor, who was recently named i2i endorser, does not readily admit to being a teen heartthrob, preferring the title "youth role model."

Sam considers himself a newbie in the business and confesses that like his acting career, his signature style is still a work in progress. ?I used to dress in baggy jeans and loose t-shirts,? he says. These days, he?s still in denims, ?but at least they?re skinny and the shirts are more fitted.?

In the world of fashion, many would argue that "getting the proportion right is the key to style" so the guy?s definitely getting something right. Who?s behind Sam?s latest fashion finds? Where does he shop? How does he define his personal style? SIM digs its way into Milby?s closet to find out:

Describe your personal style.

Plain, just casual.

Has your style changed since you got into showbiz?

I had no style when I first started. Now I?m wearing skinny jeans. But I?m far from being a fashionista.

Who influences your style and way of dressing?

I am not one to copy. As an artist, I want to find my own look. So I shop around. I like Zara (especially its suede trainers), Topman (for pants) and the European brand Jack Jones. (Fellow actor) Piolo Pascual introduced me to this brand and its fitted plaid tops). For accessories, I have a metal necklace that a friend gave me. It releases negative energy and helps me sleep better.

Whose closet would you most likely to raid?

Jessica Alba?s. I would like to have any piece of clothing from her.

When dressing for special occasions, who do you wear?

Frances Libiran (Q.C.) or Joey Samson.

Jeans or suit?

Jeans!

Cowboy boots or trainers?

Trainers!

What?s your most expensive purchase?

A Gucci Messenger bag. I have two of these.

Cheapest item in your wardrobe that you still use?

A $1 bandanna from Goodwill (secondhand store in the US).

What do you consider a sexy outfit in a male and in a female?

I think guys look best when they are dressed in a classy gentleman?s attire. For women though, I think there?s nothing sexier than a girl wearing a guy?s button down polo with nothing else.

There?s a saying: ?Clothes make the man.? Agree-disagree?

I disagree with it. I think there are a lot of guys who are not into fashion but can still be geniuses and gentlemen. I can see the connection though between what one wears and what he is. I just don?t think it applies to everyone.

If you were going to take a seminar on style, what would it focus on?

I am undecided on many things. I just go for what is safe. I need a guide to find out what my style actually is.

Why dress safe?

My current sense of style is mandated by the ?biz. I have been told to dress safe and that is what I am currently doing.

Why do you think you were chosen to endorse i2i?

Tina and Rico (Ocampo) saw that I like to wear sunglasses a lot. I own 10 pairs. My current favorites are aviators (Piretti from i2i).

Shades hide emotions. What emotion/s do you hide from the public?

Anger is not an emotion I like to show in public. I am a very calm patient person in general, and it?s only road rage I can think of right now that gets me upset.

In this i2i campaign, you show some skin. Is this a new you? Is this a sign of more things to come ? off?

My shirt is off, but that?s nothing new. It?s just a more mature role for me. I don?t plan to become a bold star but I do want to evolve. I have a dream job so I will do what I can to make it grow.

So for fans waiting for Sam to take it all off, you?ll just have to wait a little longer. If he?s seriously looking to develop his career, he might want to revisit that T-back statement because a more mature audience considers a bare chest mere appetizer. ?
