MANILA, Philippines?Spurring the market for Internet access on the Blackberry device, mobile telecommunications firm Globe Telecom introduced an unlimited Internet access on the Blackberry for postpaid users.

The prepaid service will be offered in three modes: P50 for 24 hours, P220 for five day days, and P1,200 for one month.

Users can get unlimited access to several push email, instant messaging services, and social networking sites. Among these are Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live, facebook, Multiply, Flickr, and Twitter.

Blackberry applications, such as Blackberry Maps and its messenger service, are also included in the service.

But the service does not include Internet browsing, which will be charged separately. For postpaid users, they will be charged 15 centavos per kilobyte while prepaid users will be charged P5 every15 minutes of usage.

Globe also offers P5 per 15 minute Internet browsing charging to regular mobile phone users as well as for its PC-based Tattoo wireless Internet.

Globe?s service comes two weeks after rival Smart introduced its own unlimited Internet browsing.

Globe Enterprise Segments Head Jesus Romero said the new service aims to entice new subscribers to the Blackberry device, which has become an aspiration for users who want to enjoy the look and feel of a QWERTY smartphone.

Romero said the Blackberry has been one of the more popular devices used among corporate users, particularly those with mobile workforce. Its wide use for businesses has also taken some consumers to take interest, which he said is an addressable market for the device.

He added that companies also look for more cost-effective offers for their workforce, especially those who need to be connected to their emails frequently. The new Blackberry prepaid service would allow them to get access to their company emails at a lower cost.

Globe Product Manager for Integrated Services Paolo Cesar Lacuna said that the introduction of the new Blackberry 8520, priced at around P15,000 or about half of previous models, also opens a new segment of consumers.

The Blackberry 8520 is a ?junior? version of the Blackberry Bold. As such, some of the features found in the Bold are not in the 8520. It does not have 3G connectivity, and only sports a 2.0 megapixel camera without flash.
