LOS ANGELES ? ?Ricky Gervais has a kind of wicked, fun sense of humor, so I want to stay on his good side,? quipped Mavis Spencer, Alfre Woodard?s daughter, who will be assisting in the Golden Globe Awards show that will be hosted by the British comedian on Sunday.

As Miss Golden Globe 2010, Mavis will be onstage most of the time in the party-style awards show that honors achievements in film and television. Ricky has deadpanned that he will roast the stars in the audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel?s International Ballroom??anyone who?s younger, thinner, richer and more attractive than me.?

Lea Michele, a nominee for Best Actress in a TV Series-Comedy or Musical for ?Glee,? was quoted as saying in an interview, ?It?s going to be a fun night, but hopefully, Ricky doesn?t tease me about anything!? Neil Patrick Harris said, ?Ricky would probably tease me about my hosting duties on other awards shows. He?s absolutely hilarious. I can?t wait to see what he?s going to do.?

?I?ve never met Mr. Gervais, but he?s made me laugh many times,? Mavis, 18, a champion equestrienne who has graced the pages of Teen Vogue and InStyle Magazine, told us. ?I?m looking forward to meeting him. It will be fun to be onstage with him, even if I don?t have any lines!?

Long tradition

?I?m flattered to have been chosen as Miss Golden Globe,? Mavis, whose dad is writer-producer Roderick Spencer, remarked in our interview. ?I realize I?m part of a long tradition, so I?m excited and a little nervous?although it?s a one-night-only job!? A tradition began in 1963, Miss Golden Globe is selected annually from the daughters of well-known celebrities.

When we interviewed Mavis during the selection process, she impressed us with her poise and confidence. An aspiring model and actress, she will be a freshman at Columbia University this year.

Among previous Miss Golden Globe honorees are Laura Dern, Linda Evans, Melanie Griffith, Anne Archer and Rumer Willis.

Phil Berk, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes on the Golden Globe Awards, announced Mavis? selection at the Second Annual Golden Globe Party Saluting Young Hollywood held at Nobu West Hollywood. Fil-Am actress, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, was among the guests.

Mavis commented about the party, ?It was fun but a bit overwhelming. It made me appreciate how intense it must be for people in the public eye when, suddenly, everybody is focused on you.?

This Sunday will be Mavis? first time at the Golden Globes. She revealed to us that she will be wearing a Valentino gown. Her mom, who played Betty Applewhite in the 2005-06 episodes of ?Desperate Housewives,? won a 1998 Globe Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie Made for TV statuette (for ?Miss Evers? Boys?) and earned two nods in 2001 and 1993. Alfre has also scored Oscar and Emmy nominations.

Rich history

?It means a lot to me as a young person to be part of something with such a rich history,? Mavis said of the Golden Globe Awards, which is on its 67th year. ?I know how my mom feels when she brings home a trophy. And, for me to hand people tokens of their accomplishments when they?re elated is really cool. I have memories of my mom traipsing off to the Globes. But, this year, she?s with me. And, we?re going to have so much fun!?
