220 million+: Estimated number of people who have diabetes worldwide.

5: Percentage of total number of deaths caused by diabetes globally each year. Around 3.2 million deaths every year are attributed to diabetes complications.

6: Average number of deaths caused by diabetes every minute globally.

45-64: Mean or average age of people with diabetes who are living in low and middle income countries.
80: Percentage of people with diabetes who live in low and middle income countries.

1991: Year that the World Diabetes Day (WDD) was declared by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization.

1958: Year the Philippine Diabetes Association was organized.

8th: Rank of diabetes mellitus in the Department of Health?s 10 Leading Causes of Mortality in the Philippines (2005)

At least 3: Number of days a week that a diabetic is advised to exercise. About 30 to 45 minutes of exercise per day will help control the blood sugar level.

240+: Blood sugar level to watch out for among insulin users who want to exercise. Diabetics who use insulin and whose blood sugar is more than 240 are advised against engaging in physical work-outs.

70 and above: Glycemic index that is considered ?High.? The index is a ranking of carbohydrates on a scale of 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating.

72 to 89: Glycemic index range of 150 grams of white rice.

66 to 87: Glycemic index range of 150 grams of brown rice

59 to 89: Glycemic index range of 30 grams of wheat flour white bread
