MANILA, Philippines?Drawing attention to the administration?s legacy of 52 completed infrastructure projects, officials yesterday called on the incoming administration to treat President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ?fairly.?
The Pro-Performance System Steering Committee issued the call after it presented its final report on the milestones of the administration five days before Ms Arroyo steps down from the presidency.
Secretary Ma. Elena Bautista-Horn, cochair of the committee, said the administration completed 52 infrastructure projects worth P104.67 billion in the past nine years.
?Any President would like infrastructure to be in their legacy
programs. I am very hopeful that the next President will further build on our achievements for the greater good of our people,? she said at the start of the presentation at the Arlegui Mansion.
She later added that Ms Arroyo should be treated ?fairly.?
Donald Dee, who represented the business sector in the committee, also appealed to the Aquino administration to treat officials of the administration kindly.
Dee said, ?I wish that those coming in to govern in the coming weeks will understand, as they start engaging bureaucracy and the people in government, that they?re there to support. They should not look at our brothers and sisters in government as just people sitting around, and using their position for their own personal interest.?
Dee, a member of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry thanked Ms Arroyo for giving business leaders the opportunity to serve in the committee and ?to show our people that there are those in business who will not only think of profits but will contribute time and effort? to nation-building.
Ms Arroyo created the committee in 2007 to monitor the implementation of the administration?s programs and projects.
It is chaired by Fr. Anton Pascual of Caritas Manila and cochaired by Bautista-Horn. It is composed of representatives from the mass media, youth, business, Church, local government, civil society, academe and national government.
