MANILA, Philippines? When asked to spill her city secret, RockEd?s Gang Badoy told us about LimiTado. ?LimiTado is Marikina?s witty retort to Rockwell?s Archaeology: Independent Lifestyles space. It?s a happy place for the T-shirt, flip-flops set.
Comedian Tado Jimenez runs it with his wife. Tado designs the shirts. They alter your ukay loot that don?t fit, etc. Bags and quirky accessories are available too,? she SMSd.
Naturally, like Gang, we felt like spreading the gospel of Tado?s shirts too.
It?s not a commonly known fact but Tado has been printing shirts for some time now. ?Madalas akong mag-consign sa ibang shops, sa mga kaibigan ko. Pero naisip ko, maganda rin na magkaroon ako ng sariling tindahan.?
And the best part? He only prints a limited number of shirts for every design?so each one is actually a collectible.
His Ninoy Aquino spoof shirt is one of the more popular designs. ?Hindi nawawala yun kasi laging hinahanap ng tao. ?Di ba sabi ni Ninoy ?Hindi Ka Nag-Iisa?? Yung akin, ?Nag-iisa Lang Ako.?
He also has dreams of printing his poetry on shirts and taking pictures of people who he would spot wearing his words.
Next month, he says they?ll offer bigger sizes. ?Kawawa naman yung friends ko na malalaki, ang nangyayari nagbibigay na lang sila ng T-shirt nila at doon ako nagpi-print; P30 na lang ang singil ko sa kanila. Next month may quadruple XL na ako.?
Tado?s goods wouldn?t put a dent in your pocket?he sells his shirts for just P150-P250. And he feels that it?s just right, given his location.
?Nagtayo ako ng tindahan sa tabi ng dose pesos na hamburger-an at barberya na P40 lang ang gupit.?
LimiTado does not just offer Tado?s shirts?it?s home to a lot of other quirky finds. Bags, accessories?and even toy collectibles that Tado is passionate about. ?Mahilig ako sa die-cast na Volkswagen. Madalas din ako bumili nun,? Tado said.
Tado also sells CDs of his band Live Tilapia at the store. The CD, which includes seven songs, goes for just P50.
The store is a family affair for Tado. His wife Lei takes care of what he calls the kikay side of things. They sell clothes that Tado?s mom sews.
And they offer fashion finds from Korea as well.
Tado has exciting things in store for LimiTado fans. He intends to create a line of shirts he refers to as his arts series.
The shirts would feature the paintings of his artist friends. He would also have an in-house tattoo artist soon for people who want a more permanent statement.
While a lot of the people who visit his shop live just around his neighborhood, there are those who travel far to get their dose of Tado?s offerings. ?May mga dumadayo pa galing Pasay,? Tado said.
And for affordable limited-edition shirts, collectibles and unpretentious fashion finds?why not?
