Rainbow bright

NOW that summer’s nearly here again, it’s time to bring out the brightest, juiciest colors in your wardrobe in order to celebrate the season.

After all, light colors look and feel fresher as opposed to dark colors such as black, gray and brown.

The SM Department store recently came up with a new collection of brightly colored garments. However, instead of the usual tees, it decided to go a step further by adding a punch of color to another clothing staple: denim.

At first glance, pastel and rainbow-colored denims look terribly hard to wear. After all, who goes around in yellow or purple pants, save for ’80s fashion victims? But don’t dismiss this trend right away: Instead of trying to tone down your outfit by pairing the colored denims with more subdued hues, go all out in crazy, tongue-in-cheek outfits.

If you’ve always wanted to imitate the style of the Japanese girls from the Harajuku district, now is the time to grab a pair of brightly colored pants. Layer the denims with contrasting colors in order to get the most out of the unusual style.

Avoid wearing tops of the same color, as doing so will only make you look like a backup dancer on a noontime show. Use lightweight tank tops over shirts (so you won’t feel warm even in layers of clothing) and wear your funkiest pair of sneakers.

Experiment with accessories such as chunky necklaces, bangles, cuffs, sunglasses and bandannas to liven up your look. A printed scarf or huge sunglasses can easily pull your outfit together. That way, you won’t look as if you just pulled on the first things you dug out of your closet upon waking up.

Lastly, it takes a great deal of confidence to pull off such a look, so whenever you go out in your colorful ensemble, make sure to pile up on the attitude (since there’s no way you can blend in with the crowd).

Colorful clothes often scream for attention, so make sure you want it. Otherwise, stick to safe neutrals—though you’ll be missing out on the fun.
