What do I do with my uber-jealous GF?

Philippine Daily Inquirer

Last updated 16:56:00 07/11/2008

MANILA, Philippines—Dear Jewel,

I am this close to breaking up with my girlfriend. She’s always jealous of everything, anytime, anywhere. It’s driving me crazy. It doesn’t matter where we are—cinema, mall, or restaurant—when she throws a fit it’s like a scene from a movie. There was a time we were on the beach and I got a text message. She kept asking me who sent it, and I told her it was a lady friend. There were no explanations needed; she snatched my phone and threw it at the sea. This is unbelievable. Can she still be stopped?

BATTERED BOYFRIEND

Dear BB,

Why don’t you break up with her already? Seriously, I’d like to know why you still stay with her after all these things. If I could just venture a guess, I would say you did something in the past to make her act the way she does now. Because if you’re honestly guilt-free, then you will have done what a normal person will do in these circumstances: get out.

I won’t question you further on what you did, but it must have been really bad that it’s now ruining your girlfriend and your relationship. See, forgiving is very different from forgetting, and they don’t come as a package, in spite of what everyone tells us. It seems she hasn’t done any of it, and it’s eating her alive.

Do the sane thing and let her go, before you’re both scarred for life. You’ll find that this way, the two of you can finally have what others have long been looking for: peace of mind.

Phones should be turned off while on vacation,

Jewel
