Ninja Gaiden II: Combat good, camera bad

MANILA, Philippines—Yes, Ninja Gaiden II is still a yummy, high-octane action game. The combat system, which made its predecessor such a hit, was greatly modified into one of the slickest (and goriest) action games available in the market today.

The new weapons to toy with and the crazy-looking Obliteration Techniques are just bliss. Plus, the new health regeneration system and well-thought out save points (finally!) pace well with the action.

Unfortunately, even with its divine combat, almost every issue that plagued the previous title has been left untouched. The camera, always the problem even back in PS3’s Sigma, is still so unforgiving, if not worse.

Don’t get me wrong. Ninja Gaiden II is still a bad-ass game. It’s just that it would’ve been so much better if Tecmo had the patience to patch up its cracks. Gaiden vets will dig it for sure, despite the flaws. Newbies, however, should think twice since this isn’t your typical Devil May Cry or God of War outing.

And, yup, as always, block and dodge are your best pals. Never—I repeat—never forget that.
