MANILA, Philippines—Bugs Bunny, Tweety, the Tasmanian Devil and the rest of the gang from Looney Tunes are usually seen on TV. But this time, they want kids and teens to get off the couch and get moving. Healthy living is in—to be active and have fun at the same time.
All throughout the month of August, the Looney Tunes World Games will hold sports activities such as ice skating, bowling, taekwondo, basketball, gymnastics, and dance.
The Looney Tunes World Games opening ceremonies were held at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink last Aug. 2. Hosted by Anthony Suntay, the launch saw a performance by the SM Ice Skating Team portraying the different sports featured in the Looney Tunes World Games.
Steve Hontiveros, secretary general of the Philippine Olympic Committee, and Ric Camaligan of the Leisure Center Group were also present at the ceremonies.
Taekwondo will be the first to get the spotlight on Aug. 9 and 10 at SM Fairview, in cooperation with the Philippine Taekwondo Association. On Aug. 16 and 17, former PBA players and coaches will hold a basketball clinic at SM Southmall.
SM Megamall will be the venue for the gymnastics and dance programs on Aug. 23 and 24. The Latin Juvenile Dancers will perform on the second day, coached by Bong Marquez, Asia Pacific Gold Medalist for Dance Sport.
A high school cheerleading competition in search of Team Tweety will be held on Aug. 30 at the Music Hall of the Mall of Asia. Several schools will be participating, among them School of the Holy Spirit, School of St. Anthony, Miriam College, St. Pedro Poveda College, Assumption College, San Beda Alabang, Jose Abad Santos High School and St. Mary’s College.
