FORGET subtlety and neutral tones. Fashion in the coming year will be all about color and bright prints, say some of the local industry?s top designers. Here?s a sneak peek at the trends to look out for in the coming year:

All-out prints

In-your-face prints will be big in clothes and accessories. Go for bold prints instead of low-key ones.

Feminine clothes

Keep your maxi dresses in your closet. One of the key trends in 2009 is the feminine look. ?Next year is all about being girly,? says Eric de los Santos of the Young Designers Guild. ?Pastels will be in.?

Sporty chic

Because of increasing fitness and health concerns, sports apparel will be more integrated into fashion. Look out for tennis-inspired outfits, cute football jerseys and tank tops.

Fruity boho

A less earthy boho will be back for the summer. ?Bohemian clothes in bright, fruity colors are hot for the summer,? says Sheree Go of Freeway. ?Look out for color blocking as well.?

Eye-catching accessories

?Statement necklaces and big rings are key,? says accessories designer Happy David. Ruby Gan of Schu agrees, saying, ?Exotic patterns like python and snakeskin and metallic colors will be very apparent in accessories for 2009.?

Playsuits

One-piece belted suits (either short or long) are slowly becoming one of the hotter items this year?you?ll see them come out as summer draws closer.

The pin-up girl

We saw the trend coming in the last quarter of the year. Wide skirts, red lipstick, cinched waists, high-waisted pants, polka dots and other feminine details will explode in 2009.
