Student bazaar at Rockwell

ORGANIC products and innovative food await visitors of the Assumption College San Lorenzo student bazaar, open today at the Rockwell Tent.

The bazaar, dubbed ?Supremacy: Crowning AC?s Finest,? will carry products developed by students of Assumption?s Milleret School of Business and Management for Women (MSBMW). The school also made it a point to encourage its students to carry items that are earth-friendly, organic, or made from indigenous materials.

The students came up with rather sophisticated products for college students, and reflected the global trend of going organic and eating healthy.

For instance, Frucht Bread, created by Micah Aguilar, Stephanie Alvarez, Markheala Bongco, Kristina Honoras and Elaine Ramos, is made with natural fruit bits.

?All of us were interested in baking and considered the fact that people are interested in healthy diets,? said the students of their product.

Another team, composed of Charlotte Alvarez, Knycolle Pascual and Carissa Tanlu, came up with Atracta Insecticide, an organic pest-killer.

?The inspiration of our business enterprise came from our experience during Assumption?s Integrated Summer Study Program (ISSP) in Real, Quezon,? Alvarez said. ?We were introduced to organic pesticides and insecticides by the Infanta Integrated Community Development Assistance Inc. (ICDAI).?

?We decided to pursue organic insecticide as our entrepreneurial venture because of our concern for the health of people in the urban areas, particularly in Metro Manila.?

Other groups decided to go for products that encouraged sustainable development, such as camote-based food items.

Yam Yum camote chips (created by Meliza Dennise Biniza, Rommella Magbitang, Andrea Pamela Magnaye, Kyra Angeline Mercado, Ralph Ivory Samoy and Kris Arrianne Timbre) and Panadera camote bread (by Maia Benavides, Michelle Coronel, Mariangela Flores, Kristen Francisco, Catherine Palma and Ana Quiogue) will also be available at the bazaar.

Gates open at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at P100 each, with ticket sales going to a relief fund for the Cagayan de Oro flood victims and the peace projects of the Asia America Initiative. For details, call 8170757.
