Snapping the beauty of Bohol

By Ruby de Vera
Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE ISLAND of Bohol may be a typical destination for both local and foreign travelers. After all, who can resist all the things the island has to offer ? the famous Chocolate Hills, Panglao Island, Loboc River, and the island?s resident wonder of nature, the tarsier? Sony Ericsson, with its latest mobile phone offering, the Cybershot C510, let us capture Bohol with the latest in camera phone technology.

Sony Ericsson introduces the Smile Shutter? technology, a feature that detects when the subject is smiling and automatically takes a picture. This is very handy especially when taking barkada pictures and tourist shots along the scenic backgrounds of Bohol. The Cybershot C510 has a 3.2 megapixel camera, autofocus and 3.2 digital zoom to boot.

The phone has several camera presets included, such as Night Portrait, Landscape and Panoramic. You can even edit your pictures using PhotoFix, add frames or clipart, and publish it immediately on your blog or even Facebook. Videos can also be uploaded to YouTube.

We took the Cybershot C510 around for a spin in Bohol, visiting the famous places that the island is known for, and taking pictures of smiles along the way.

The Baclayon Church, dating back to 1596, is the oldest church in Bohol. It has a museum that houses church artifacts and centuries-old marriage and baptismal records.

Next stop was the Clarin Ancestral House, home of former Senator Jose Clarin. The house was built in 1840, and exhibits antique furniture, old clothes and tableware. The National Historical Institute has declared the Clarin House a National Heritage Site.

Of course we didn?t forget to see the breathtaking Chocolate Hills, where we watched the magnificent sunset. The next day we visited Bohol Bee Farm, where I learned that a bee produces approximately one teaspoon of honey in its lifetime, and that the bougainvilla flower can be eaten.

The lunch at the Loboc River is a must for all Bohol visitors ?
where else can you feast on a sumptuous spread while being serenaded and cruising along the scenic river, all at the same time.

Nocturnal creatures

We also visited the Philippine Tarsier Foundation in Corella, where the tarsiers are provided a sanctuary for breeding. Unlike the tarsiers we usually see on tourist pictures, this time we needed the help of a spotter to find the sleeping tarsiers on trees. We were very careful not to make a lot of noise, and we were also warned not to use our camera flash, as the tarsiers are nocturnal creatures.

The last stop was at the Dauis Church Convent, where the museum, café and souvenir shop had been recently renovated, along with the scenic decks behind the church. Very old trees shade the decks, and the area can be reserved for private functions.

To kick off the new lines of Cybershot and Walkman phones, Sony Ericsson has declared Sarah Geronimo its brand ambassador. The 20-year-old recently bagged six awards at the MYX Music Awards, including Favorite Artist, Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Celebrity VJ. Her latest movie, ?You Changed my Life,? was a big hit. Sarah will take part in several exciting activities that Sony Ericsson is set to do this year with their upcoming mobile phones and accessories, starting with the Smile Shutter? campaign.

The Cybershot C510 more than gives you the best images, it?s also fully loaded with other features such as auto rotation, which lets you alter the landscape and portrait view by rotating the phone. The SMS conversation style lets you view your messages as a ?thread.? The C510 even has a media player with album art, Mega Bass? sound and TrackID?, a Sony Ericsson-exclusive function that gives song information. E-mail, web surfing, 3D games, Google Maps?, and video streaming are also available.

All pictures were taken with Sony Ericsson Cybershot C510.
