Cory tribute, unique touches at Comic Con

By Jed-Angelo Q. Segovia

iamcollectible

Adorable, no? Yes, these are Ninoy vinyl figures launched at Comic Con as part of the ?iamninoy? campaign. Milch Pe of Imagine Nation Studios said, ?They were proposed by the studio, and given the go signal by ?iamninoy.? They come in yellow and black or all-white editions so artists can create their own unique Ninoys. A con-goer bought one to ?place in my workplace for inspiration.? Proceeds from purchase go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Now that?s a toy with legacy.

?Con?-artists

A sketch table manned by the talents of Carlo Pagulayan, Harvey Tolibao, Jason Paz, Stephen Segovia and more. These professionals have done art for Marvel and DC, and now lucky con-goers have these artists? original pencil sketches in their hands.

Master of disguise

Somewhere in this photo is Carlo Valenzuela, who came as ?The Box,? an in-joke from the Metal Gear Solid video game series. Can you find him? I can?t. He?s just so well-hidden.

Smells like indie spirit

This whole corner, dubbed Indie GO! Valley, was manned by independent artists selling their original work. For them, the Comic Con is about camaraderie between artists and ?world peace? (and I thought it was about comics!).

Wigged out

Wigs, wigs, and more wigs! Lacking that vital accessory to complete the look of your favorite cosplay character? This stall offered wigs in whole range of radioactive rainbow colors.

These stickers...
...speak for themselves.

Ninja is the new black (or white)

Despite his hectic schedule, ninja villain Storm Shadow, from the movie GI Joe, graced the convention! Quiver in his sinister, dual-katana-wielding pose. You can catch him in his movie playing in all major cinemas (actually, no, this is obviously just a cosplayer ? a really darn good one!).

?Paalam, Tita Cory?

A surprising and touching sight in Comic Con: a yellow tarp with the likeness of Cory Aquino on it, huge enough for hundreds of con-goers to leave messages of thanks to the ?Saint of People Power.? It was very commendable for the organizers to place this commemorative tarp in the convention. It goes to show that even in these events, the hopes of a nation are still top of mind.

Hide your children

Yes, someone came as notorious Internet character Pedobear! I don?t know what?s worse: his having photos taken with kids, or grown men chasing him for photo-ops.
