LAST AUGUST 8, in the middle of the humongous SM Mall of Asia, something amazing took place: Two people suddenly started showcasing some impressive break-dance moves to the tune of Rihanna?s ?Please Don?t Stop the Music.?
The music -- and the dancing -- didn?t stop. In fact, the music grew louder and more exciting while the number of dancers multiplied and multiplied until around 300 people were dancing to today?s catchiest hits, from Lady Gaga?s ?Pokerface? to the Pussycat Dolls? ?Jai Ho.?
The flash mob dance was an exciting presentation from fast-food giant Jollibee.
Choreographed by hot dance group Whiplash and directed by film, TV and music video director Mark Reyes, the dance explosion was participated in by teens, yuppies -- and even a couple of funky grandmas!
It may have lasted for only four minutes, but it was so riveting that mall rats instantly converged to witness the spectacle, and record the whole thing using their digital cameras and mobile phones.
Now, videos of the grand production number are all over the worldwide Web, from social networking sites to blogs, and YouTube, of course.
The flash mob dance was inspired by today?s teens who, apart from reaching their goals and standing out in whatever field they choose, also know how to have some good, clean fun.
?A large number of our youth today are excelling in their respective fields, just like Jollibee Yumburger, which has maintained its leadership position in the burger category all these years,? says Jollibee marketing manager Aileen Ricasata. ?While times change, the langhap-sarap taste of Yumburger remains the same.?
Of course, just like how Pinoy teens evolve through time, Jollibee Yumburger also continues to get better -- by having more and more yummy variants, for example.
You?ve got to hand it to the well-loved fast-food chain when it comes to saluting the youth.
Not only do they gather 300 people to dance in front of a huge crowd, they turn a mall into a massive dance floor too.
Says Jollibee VP for marketing Gold F. Tantoco: ?For decades, Jollibee has been the symbol of happiness and special family moments especially among Filipino kids. But even in their growing-up years, Jollibee continues to believe that the youth, particularly the teens of today, still relish the simple but good things in life.?
The flash mob dance was definitely a special moment for all teens and mall-goers at SM Mall of Asia that day. It was far from being simple, but it was undoubtedly a good, good thing.
