MANILA, Philippines—Care for a TASTE of some local movie-making originality? UP Film Center’s Cine Adarna features acclaimed digital films from last year’s crop of Cinema One Originals from Jan. 28-31, Monday to Thursday. “Maling Akala” kicks off the showcase at 5 p.m. on Monday, then “Confessional” at 7 p.m. On Tuesday the marathon starts with “Altar,” followed by “Prinsesa” at 5 p.m., then “Tambolista” at 7 p.m. “Confessional” and “Altar” will be shown again on Wednesday and on Thursday, “Maling Akala,” “Tambolista” and “Princesa” make their encore on the last day. FEEL the chill run up your spine in Martin Cabrera’s thriller “Condo”, now showing at Robinson’s Galleria’s Indiesine until Jan. 29. Kicking of Indiesine’s 2008, “Condo” tells the story of a security guard of a condominium who is trying to move on from his tragic past but is now taunted by a being from an empty condo unit. Starring Coco Martin, Arnold Reyes, Diana Malahay, Avi Siwa, Chx Alcala, Vice Ganda, Love Thadani, Jao Mapa, and Perla Bautista, based on a screenplay by Aloy Adlawan. SEE beauty beyond what is skin deep as the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) starts its run of Vincent de Jesus’ “Skin Deep” on Feb. 1 to March 9. See through the eyes of various characters as they go in their quest to become beautiful at the Skin Deep Beauty Sanctuary. The Lucky Makeover Seven—an obese female call-center agent, a troubled married couple, a male model wannabe, a flamboyant florist, an abused housewife burned beyond recognition and the reigning Miss Artificial Beauty—go through different miracle procedures hoping to become more aesthetically acceptable to the cruel world outside. Featuring performances by award-winning and internationally-acclaimed stage actors Robert Seña, Isay Alvarez, and Bituin Escalante.
