MANILA, Philippines—For just one night on April 30, in a dance party at the NBC Tent, at 8 p.m., EXPERIENCE the music and the moves of the ’70s and ’80s coming back to us in full force with the reunion of Penthouse 7, the famed Sunday night weekly dance show on GMA 7.

That great ’70s-’80s dance show was responsible for popularizing dance steps such as the Robot, the Bump, the LA Walk, the New York Hustle, Pop-Locking, Swing and taught willing viewers how to do the said moves. Some of them may be familiar to us today, if not, ask your parents for a demo. On hand to lead the dancing will be the old gang of Penthouse 7 featuring Archie Lacson and company. For inquiries, call Ticketworld 891-9999 and Genesis at 721-4405 loc 105, 106, 108.

Wake up and SMELL the seawater and sun block when over 1,000 rowers from Australia, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States and the Philippines congregate on the waters of the country’s summer mecca, Boracay, for the FILA Boracay International Dragon Boat Festival on May 1 to 3. From your spot on the white sands on the beachfront of the Boracay Regency Beach Resort and Convention Center, you can comfortably witness the amazing feats of teamwork, camaraderie and strength, and power (not to mention, the buff bods of the athletes!) as these boat teams compete for the gold. For more information, e-mail boracayislandpaddlers@yahoo.com or visit www.boracaydragonboat.ph.

It’s already widely known that Filipino local music is world-class; in fact, it’s already a cliché to describe our local bands as that. But come to CCP on May 2 to 4 and HEAR today’s top bands perform at the Fiesta ng Musikang Filipino anyway to just bask in the glorious sound of our country’s kickass music once more. Catch two different bands each night jam with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, beginning with Sugarfree and Up Dharma Down, followed by Radioactive Sago Project and The Jerks, and on the last night, Sinosikat and The Dawn. Renowned international violinist Lucia Micarelli and Juan de la Cruz are featured performers each night. The aural gluttony starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at selected Odyssey Outlest and all Music One branches. Or text (0928) 422-9859 or call Greative Dynamic Marketing Inc. 893-2543 to 45 look for Paul Catap.

FEEL the beat from your feet to your hips, and arms and finger tips, see what your body is capable of doing and learn how to dance Samba this summer at the North Court, Power Plant Mall every Wednesday at 7:30 to 9 p.m. Classes have already started, but it’s never too late to join in. Learn Brazilian drumming and dance from the country’s first and only Samba school. Escola de Samba de Manila. Summer promo rate P200 per class. Call (0917) 279-9824. Classes are on-going until May 28.

SEE all the festivals from all over the country converge in one place in one weekend, from May 1 to 3, at the Aliwan Festival at the Aliw Theater in the CCP Complex. This great big fiesta indulges in all things fun and elaborate and Filipino from concerts, pageants, parades, bazaars, dance competitions and a photo contest. Be on hand for the major events in the evenings of each day, May 1 at 7 p.m. there’s the Pasakalye and a concert at the Aliw Theater, on May 2, a pre-pageant of the Reyna ng Aliwan at 7 p.m., on the last day, starting at 4 p.m., the grand parade. And what a parade! There will be 20 floats, 24 Reyna ng Aliwan, more than 3,000 dancers, musicians, craftsmen and even acrobats performing all the way from the Quirino grandstand to the CCP complex! Disney has got nothing on this, you’ll see. For more information call 832-6125.
