INSPECTING GADGETS
Look out, iPod!

MANILA, Philippines—The iPod has cornered the digital music player market for years, but Philips is taking a serious step forward as a major competitor. The Philips GoGear Mp3 Player is a portable little device that serves multiple functions and boasts a slick design.

The GoGear MP3 Player is handy and user-friendly. I particularly do not find the click wheel of the iPod easy to use. Philip’s answer are buttons, which I’m more comfortable using. At the same time, the GoGear player can be attached directly into your computer as it is also a USB port. No need to figure out where you left your wires—just plug and play.

Another great add-on of the GoGear is the voice recording function. Clear and crisp, record conversations and interviews digitally and upload them into your hard drive for archiving. And it plays MP3 and WMA files, so you don’t have to convert WMA files. The GoGear MP3 is not picky with its music.

My only complaint with this lovely machine is that it is still battery operated. A triple A battery lasts you quite a long time, but the simplicity of a charged power supply still trumps having to buy, and then later on, throw away batteries.

But with the power source the only drawback, Philips has taken a serious step forward to try and topple the now iconic iPod. With different designs and disk space sizes, it offers a lot of options for different kinds of consumers who want an alternative to Apple’s digital music player. Maybe it’s time to give Philips’ GoGear a go.
