Hip new sharing site

WHAT happens when a world leader in mobile communications jumps into the media-sharing community bandwagon? The result is Ovi.Com, which is every social network/media sharing site combined and much more.

Ovi, which means door in Finnish, represents Nokia’s vision in combining the Internet and mobility. It’s not the usual social networking site. Aside from the prerequisite photo, video uploads offered by others, Ovi offers unlimited storage space for all of your media including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and even music files.

The maximum upload capacity per attachment is whopping 100MB! Plus, you can easily back up your contacts, calendar, task and notes online. So if ever you lose your mobile phone (for the nth time), Sync on Ovi will keep your important files safe and up-to-date.

Through Files on Ovi, you can use your mobile phone (such as the N96) to view, download, and send photos, documents, and files stored on your personal computer. This is currently on a 60-day trial period. If ever you need to access files in your home computer quick, you can easily (and securely!) do so with Ovi.

Nokia chose no other than Mr. Energy himself to be the face of Ovi. Gary Valenciano, who is celebrating his 25th year in the music industry, put up his page on Ovi as a way of keeping his friends updated.

“I decided to upload my photos and videos because I wanted to share them with my fans and everyone else. In a way, it is also my way of showing and telling people that I would not be where I am not without them,” Gary V said.

Check out http://share.ovi.com/GaryV and you’ll see personal and behind-the-scenes photos and videos: a new and refreshing peek into Gary’s busy schedule.

With his many shows and trips here and abroad, the Ovi site is a way for people to catch up with the goings-on in Gary’s life, and it is also a way for the singer himself to stay connected with them.

“Ovi instantly informs you through your phone about any changes in your site,” said Valenciano, who easily got the hang of navigating the Ovi page and is also fascinated with the Geolocation feature. Upload a picture and it can a display a map where the photo was taken. In a way, it’s like playing “Where in the World is Gary V?”

With Ovi’s channel options, fans can now also upload photos and videos of their idol, and Gary can choose which files to display on his site. Gary is excited about what this media sharing can lead to: “I think there’s no telling how creative one can become!” Valenciano said he is open to the possibility of uploading music files that people can download and add their own sound to.

Ovi.com is open even to non-Nokia users. This is the perfect site to keep your life in sync, and help you stay connected with friends anytime, anywhere.
