BACOLOD CITY, Philippines?A Silaynon has won the P120.9-million jackpot of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office MegaLotto 6/45 draw held Monday, former Silay Mayor Edwin Velez said Thursday night.
Velez said his son, former Silay councilor Dennis Velez, owns the lotto outlet at corner Gomez and Burgos streets in Silay City where the winning ticket, 01-19-40-35-12-08, was bought.
Edwin Velez described the winner as an elderly man who is poor, without a job and a nice person.
"He truly deserves winning the lotto," Velez said on Thursday.
However, they withheld the name and further details about the winner, who is married to a retired schoolteacher, for security reasons.
Velez said he was told the winner was planning to see him to seek help for transportation to go to Manila to claim his prize. "But he has not come yet," he added.
